Week 3 6A Rankings

Once again the rankings shift quite a bit. With plenty of upsets and rivalry, matchups here are my rankings after week 3:

1. Maple Grove = (3-0)
Result: W 21-14 vs Centennial

The Crismon are tested by the former 6A champions but pulled out a win to stay atop the rankings.

2. Shakopee = (3-0)
Result: W 17-7 vs Wayzata

Shakopee has had back-to-back close wins. They take on EP this week and I assume that number will be bumped to 3.

3. Lakeville North +1 (3-0)
Result: W 35-31 vs Lakeville South

In one of the greatest rivalries in the state, Lakeville North pulls off the Win over South.

4. Minnetonka +1 (3-0)
Result: W 35-28 vs Edina

The Skippers are improving each week. This week they got to line up across one of the best teams in the state. After being down 21-0, they fought back to steal a 35-28 victory over the Hornets.

5. Edina -3 (2-1)
Result: L 28-35 vs Minnetonka

I didn't think a loss to the Hornets would happen this soon, but maybe it'll be exactly what this team needs to motivate them for the rest of the season.

6. Eden Prairie +1 (2-1)
Result: W 40-13 vs Prior Lake

EP gets back in the win column after taking down Prior Lake this week. They don't have much time to celebrate however as they take on #2 ranked Shakopee.

7. Lakeville South -1 (1-2)
Result: L 31-35 vs Lakeville North

South suffered their second loss of the year this week. I'm not completely down on this team. If one play went differently in this game they would likely be swapping places with North.

8. Mounds View +2 (2-1)
Result: W 31-7 vs Forest Lake

After a tough OT loss in week 1, the Mustangs have a nice little streak going. They look to continue it at Stillwater this Friday.

9. Stillwater = (2-1)
Result: 24-6 vs East Ridge

Stillwater seems to have finally settled in. With a more balanced pass-run attack their offense has been able to control their last 2 games.

10. Eagan (Unranked) (2-1)
Result: W 29-14 vs Rosemount

Eagan finds their way into this week's rankings. Their only loss is to #5 Edina which is not a bad one.

Iowa 7v7's Back to Ballin Individual Performers

As I stated in my previous article last weekend I was able to go down and watch the Back to Ballin tournament hosted by Iowa 7v7. It was here that I could see a whole lot of talent on display from kids you may have never heard of. That's what I love about spring 7v7. During this time in these boys' lives, every month offers so much time for growth in their craft. When adding 7v7 into their schedule rather than not picking up a football till fall gives these kids such a big advantage. Kids that weren't great the previous fall have now developed into beasts. TC Senior Expo

Yesterday I was able to watch the TC Senior Expo held at Concordia St. Paul. The Expo was composed of 4 teams with a lot of unsigned talent across the metro area. Here are some guys who stood out to me on each team: Red: Hakeem Ford of Mpls Southwest - Hakeem Ford is an athletic star that is capable of some amazing things. I see him as a natural leader on the court. This season alone he guided his SW team to some notable wins including one of the best in 2A Minneapolis North. Muja Burton of Columbia Heights - Burton played a solid game yesterday along with a solid season. In my opinion, he was one of the best shooters in the metro area this past season. He also fit in very well with his talented CH team and could this trend continue. Benard Omooria of Osseo - If you're looking for a little of both of the last two guys I listed, Omooria is your guy. A great shooter that can give you a spark of momentum. He also was a big leader on his Osseo team this year that were ranked top 10 ...

Teams to Watch and Top Performers

As the best week of Basketball in Minnesota continues here are some hoopers and squads you should keep your eye on: Players: Mitchel Jaskowiak (S) of GSL: Despite a first-round loss, the Idaho football commit dropped an impressive 37 pts against a tough Minneapolis North squad. Jayden Livingston (J) of Totino-Grace: The junior guard came off the bench and brought a spark for the Eagles in their first game of state. He finished with 10 pts. Goanar Tap (S) of St. Cloud Tech: The 6' 9" big man really stepped up for the Tigers against DLS. He finished with 10 pts and 6 Blks. Teams: Park Center: Arguably the best team in the state this year PC is on a mission. Leo Torbor (S) San Jose St commit dropped a game-high 20 pts in a win over Andover. He, along with D1 guards Braeden Carrington (UMN commit), Cody Pennebaker (uncommitted), and Cashimer Chavis (uncommitted, soph) look to lead this 1 loss team to a Chip.
