Week 1 6A Rankings

 With week 1 officially concluded, it is time to update my rankings for class 6A:

1. Maple grove =
Result: W 55-7 vs Osseo
From the get-go, this team didn't look back. With multiple takeaways and plenty of touchdowns, the Crimson looked like the number 1 team in the state. 

2. Shakopee =
Result: W 59-39 vs Hopkins
There was never a time in doubt for the Sabers in this one, although Hopkins did make some dents in the defense. 

3. Eden Prairie =
Result: W 40-6 vs Buffalo
Not much to say here. EP came in and took care of business against a lesser opponent. 

4. Edina +2
Result: W 35-14 vs Eagan
The Hornets looked very good—good enough to jump 2 spots in this week's rankings. I really don't see how anyone can stop this offense between Mason West and the rest of the Division 1 studs.


5. Lakeville North =
Result W 27-7 vs Stillwater
To me, North came out very flat—not bad, just flat. This team shouldn't be messed with once they get some games under their belt. 


6. Minnetonka +1
Result: W 34-10 vs White Bear Lake
The skippers handled WBL pretty well given it was the first game of the season. The person who stood out to me was dual-threat QB Caleb Francois. I'm curious to see how they match up against the Wayzata Trojans next week. 

7. Lakeville South -3
Result: L 17-14 vs Wayzata
The first major upset of the year hits Lakeville South this week. On the bright side for the Cougars, it's only week one. I imagine they will shape up sooner than later. For now, however, they will drop 3 spots this week.

8. Anoka =
Result W 25-13 vs Champlin Park
I was expecting big things out of the Tornados this week. While I didn't see said things, they did manage to pull a week one win.

9. Cenntenial +1
Result: W 42-0 vs Coon Rapids
The reigning champs are back, and boy, did they waste no time. A lot of people are down on this previously senior-heavy squad, but after the clinic they put on, I imagine heads are starting to turn.

10. Farmington (Unranked)
Result: W 28-26 OT vs Mounds View
Welcome to the rankings, Tigers! I thought the poise this team showed throughout the whole game was phenomenal enough to move them into the 10th spot.

Iowa 7v7's Back to Ballin Individual Performers

As I stated in my previous article last weekend I was able to go down and watch the Back to Ballin tournament hosted by Iowa 7v7. It was here that I could see a whole lot of talent on display from kids you may have never heard of. That's what I love about spring 7v7. During this time in these boys' lives, every month offers so much time for growth in their craft. When adding 7v7 into their schedule rather than not picking up a football till fall gives these kids such a big advantage. Kids that weren't great the previous fall have now developed into beasts. TC Senior Expo

Yesterday I was able to watch the TC Senior Expo held at Concordia St. Paul. The Expo was composed of 4 teams with a lot of unsigned talent across the metro area. Here are some guys who stood out to me on each team: Red: Hakeem Ford of Mpls Southwest - Hakeem Ford is an athletic star that is capable of some amazing things. I see him as a natural leader on the court. This season alone he guided his SW team to some notable wins including one of the best in 2A Minneapolis North. Muja Burton of Columbia Heights - Burton played a solid game yesterday along with a solid season. In my opinion, he was one of the best shooters in the metro area this past season. He also fit in very well with his talented CH team and could this trend continue. Benard Omooria of Osseo - If you're looking for a little of both of the last two guys I listed, Omooria is your guy. A great shooter that can give you a spark of momentum. He also was a big leader on his Osseo team this year that were ranked top 10 ...

Teams to Watch and Top Performers

As the best week of Basketball in Minnesota continues here are some hoopers and squads you should keep your eye on: Players: Mitchel Jaskowiak (S) of GSL: Despite a first-round loss, the Idaho football commit dropped an impressive 37 pts against a tough Minneapolis North squad. Jayden Livingston (J) of Totino-Grace: The junior guard came off the bench and brought a spark for the Eagles in their first game of state. He finished with 10 pts. Goanar Tap (S) of St. Cloud Tech: The 6' 9" big man really stepped up for the Tigers against DLS. He finished with 10 pts and 6 Blks. Teams: Park Center: Arguably the best team in the state this year PC is on a mission. Leo Torbor (S) San Jose St commit dropped a game-high 20 pts in a win over Andover. He, along with D1 guards Braeden Carrington (UMN commit), Cody Pennebaker (uncommitted), and Cashimer Chavis (uncommitted, soph) look to lead this 1 loss team to a Chip.
