Battle of the North 7v7 Tournament

My 7on7 hosted the Battle of the North 7v7 championship this past weekend in Woodbury. Luckily I had the opportunity to watch some high-class athletes perform in their home territory. This was one of the most entertaining 7v7 tournaments I've attended. I could talk about it all day but for time's sake, I'll jump to the semi-finals and go from here.

Semi-Finals

Gameface vs. Iowa Flex Black

A faceoff between 2 talented squads that I was looking forward to as soon as I saw the schedule. An offensive battle would take place here with the final score ending at 38-31. Although that was the case, it was Gameface's defense that would step up and get the job done in crunch time. Gameface DB Cordell Wilson would pick off 4-star Iowa State commit JJ Kohl to seal it.

Potenza Sports Yellow vs. Hitmen:

What in my opinion was the most athletic team in attendance, Hitmen, worked their way into the semi-finals to go up against a gritty Potenza team. The final score was 21-7 Potenza. However, this doesn't portray the game in a perfect way. There were signs of Hitmen's offense really putting stress on the opposition's defense. On the other hand, they couldn't get consistent stops against a titan of an offensive unit that was Potenza Yellow.

Championship

Potenza Sports Yellow vs. Gameface:

This was a matchup both teams were pumped for. The previous day when these powerhouses faced off. GF would end victorious by only 4 points. On top of that, a lot of these kids play on the same high school teams or conferences. The competitiveness was in the air and no fan was left disappointed. Potenza came out hot on offense led by QB Finn McElroy of Edina. They'd go down and score to get it going. Unfazed, Gameface took the field and scored one of their own thanks to MN State Mankato Commit Camden Dean. This was the story of the game. No team could pull ahead of the other. 25 minutes weren't enough and we're heading into overtime. Gameface got the ball first and had an impressive gain of about 12 yards. Potenza was up and needed to get past the 28-yard line. Instead of that, McElroy threw a bomb to Sophmore WR Tyler Nystrom of Mounds View and called game. An unreal effort from both sides. Congrats to them.
